Joy was born and raised in Raleigh, North Carolina. She has a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology and Master’s degree of Clinical Counseling, with an emphasis of Addiction and Rehabilitation Studies. She has expe ience within the traumatic brain injury, intellectual disability, and developmental disability populations.

Inherently a people’s person, she is confident that every human being possesses greatness, intelligence, and strength – it just simply needs to be tapped into. She is fascinated by the brain and believes in every human’s ability to unlock potential, discover new layers of themselves, and grow by way of therapy. Her goal is to provide a therapeutic practice that can be a catapult for personal growth and will help clients achieve a “new normal” as they move through their mental health journeys, gain tools for resilience and coping, and learn to manage stress. Her main objective as a therapist is to provide a safe healing environment where clients can drop their armor, unload their burdens and stressors, and be their uninhibited selves. She aims to establish a relationship of trust and connection with her clients, where they feel invited, accepted, and welcome.

Theoretical orientations that largely shape her philosophical approach and counseling practice are person-centered therapy, existential therapy, and cognitive-behavior therapy. While these therapeutic modalities provide the foundational knowledge to her practice, she believes formulating a unique approach according to each individual client is best.
